Barbara Nahwegahbow

Anishinaabe / Toronto

Toronto-based jewelry artist Barb Nahwegahbow is Anishinaabe from Whitefish River First Nation in Northern Ontario, Canada. She grew up in a large family – four brothers and six sisters – with a dad who was a trapper and a mother who quilted, canned and sewed, and never seemed to tire.

For the last 30-some years, Barb has lived in Toronto. Twelve years ago, she started designing jewelry using gemstones, metals, nuts, vintage components and whatever else moves her to create. She combines the unexpected and makes it work. Barb is inspired by many things including the fact that our people have always prized beautiful adornments.
