Celeste Pedri-Spade is an Anishinabekwe (Ojibwe) research-based artist from Lac Des Mille Lacs First Nation. She identifies as a “mark maker” who works primarily with textiles and photography. Celeste is a Ph.D. in visual anthropology and an Associate Professor at Queen’s University, where she is also the Queen’s National Scholar in Indigenous Studies. Her art practice is committed to honouring the women in her life and exploring the tactile and sensual meanings made possible through creative entanglements with our material environments. Most recently, Celeste’s practice has focused on visualizing/materializing stories of Anishinabekwewag (Ojibwe woman) through dress and how this relates to decolonial praxis.
