Blood, Bone, Beast

Blood, Bone, Beast continues Margaret’s exploration of the tension and harmony between natural and man-made materials while embracing and intermingling technology with materials more frequently associated with indigenous work such as antler, shell and horn. From early on, storytelling and making have been an integral part of Margaret’s life and she sees her work as a continuation of her family‚Äôs experiences. As a member of the Akwesasne Mohawk Tribe, Margaret’s culture inspires her to create pieces charged with power, strength, and beauty, and in turn, she believes her work celebrates Indigenous culture with a bold, powerful aesthetic. Margaret’s jewelry and accessory pieces are bold and sculptural objects. She believes in the importance of objects and in their power to relay narratives and frequently combines technology with natural materials and intermingle unexpected forms, colors and materials. Overall, the imagery and visual narratives in Margaret’s work come from elements that are personally, familially and culturally important. The one-of-a-kind pieces in the Blood, Bone, Beast collection explore the fragility and cyclical complexity of decay and growth in nature as well as the connection between community, self and nature.
