Mi’kmaa / Indian Island First Nation
Ingrid Brooks lives in Indian Island First Nation, New Brunswick. She is the single mother of three; Nathan, Drew and Dakota Brooks. She has completed her Native Studies at the College of Art and Design in Fredericton. Her passion lies with the education, spiritual and cultural issues in first nation communities. She completed the Basket Weaving program in 1993 with Joe John Sanipass and the late Louie Clair. She also completed a Mi’kmaq Porcupine Quill Art program in 1999. She has done art exhibits and her work is displayed in Nova Scotia museums. She is a recognized artist and dancer in the Maritimes. She is a jingle dress dancer and taught many youth how to dance. She helped formed Elsipogtog & Indian Island dance troupes.
