Contemporary artist Catherine Blackburn will lead participants through a one-day “Introduction to Applied Beading” workshop. Participants will learn the basics using the two-thread application technique as well as finishing work details, including backing and edging your work.

Intermediate beaders are welcome to participate.

Catherine Blackburn was born in Ile a la Crosse Saskatchewan, of Dene and European ancestry and is a member of the English River First Nation. Blackburn is a bead artist, painter and jeweler whose work embraces two inspirations in her life, family and culture, and speaks to the complexities of memory, history and identity. Her
art merges contemporary concepts with elements of traditional Dene culture that create dialogue between traditional art forms and new interpretations of them.
